    Whitney Navy Revolver

Whitney was an established firearms company by the Civil War.  In the 1850s they developed several models of pistols including the navy revolver size.  Whitney produced around 35000 navy size revolvers.  The US military purchased close to half of the number produced.  Much of their purchases were on the open market and did not go through inspection process.

This example is a second model third type.  The serial number is just under 10,000 and is matching on the barrel, frame, cylinder pin, loading lever, cylinder, trigger guard and grips.  The metal is a silver grey patina with areas of pitting.  The firm name and address on the barrel is deep and clear.  The cylinder has much of the scene remaining.  The action is crisp.
