This Book is quite nice. It has great marbleized paper boards and a leather spine. This Cavalry manual was printed in 1861 and has an ink period presentation. The owner was John A. Green who enlisted as a private in Co H. 3rd VA Cavalry. He was wounded at Ft. Kennon, Virginia in May 1864 and promoted to Sergeant the following month. The Trooper's Manual was compiled by J. Lucius Davis (Richmond, Virginia A. Morris, 1861, 278 pages) Quarter leather boards, well worn with wear on the hinges. There is some staining on the pages. And it comes with two bookmarks(?) - one is a ballot for the 1863 Virginia governor's election. The other is a note dated 1858. This manual has a wonderful Identification and usage.
