Whitney Navy Revolver. SOLD
Whitney started producing a Navy size pistol in the late 1850s. The second model included s loading lever. The first type had loading lever with a ball catch. Also there was one safety notch on the cylinder. Whitney's total production was around 30000 pistols, with a significant number purchased by the US Military. Virginia is thought to have purchased 500 just prior to the war.
This example is complete and has matching numbers on the loading lever, rammer, frame, cylinder, triggerguard and grips. The metal is grey patina with a few patches of light pitting. The firm name is visible on the barrel. The cylinder has a good amount of the cylinder scene visible. The action is crisp. This example has a single safety notch on the cylinder and the ball latch on the rammer.
