US PATTER 1861 69 CAL ENLONGATED BALL CARTRIDGE BOX

Pattern 1861 69 caliber enlongated ball cartridge box   SOLD

This cartridge box is designed to hold cartridges for the rifled 69 caliber muskets.  It is wider than the 69 round ball box and the 58 caliber boxes.  

This box is complete with both buckles firmly attached, a complete latch tab, tins, and the US plate.  The box has no maker's marks.  Contracts issused up to the summer of 1862 did not required the maker to mark the boxes.  These unmarked boxes were made earlier in the war.  

SOLD

The leather us solid and complete though there is some flaking.  There are no tears or weak spots.  The only rivets on the box are on the waist belt loops.  The stitching is solid and strong.
