QUARTER PLATE Ambrotype union soldier
1/4 Plate Ambrotype of standing soldier wearing a greatcoat and a Federal forage cap with NHV in letters on his cap. This stands for New Hampshire Volunteers. He is holding a 1841 rifle with a fixed saber bayonet. He is wearing a 1855 rifle belt which had a intregeral frog for a saber bayonet. Only one New Hampshire regiment was issued 1841 rifles. The 9 NH went into the army of the Potomac and participated in the 1862 campaigns. They were tranfered West in 1863 and served in the Vicksburg campaign.
