PATTER 1861 CARTRIDGE BOX SOLD
This is a solid example of the 1861 cartridge box. It has the plate but not the tins. The inner flap is not marked. Contractors were not required to mark their products until contracts made after the summer of 1862. So unmarked boxes date from earlier in the war.
The leather is sound and the stitching is tight. Both buckles are firmly attacked and the fire ial is brass. The strap for the implement pouch is missing. The brass US plate has a lovely patina.
