Model 1861 Rifle Musket Norfolk 1863
SOLD
The model 1861 Rifle musket was produced at Springfield Armory and by a number of Contractors. This example was produced by William Welch of Welch, Brown and Company of Norfolk Connecticut. They delivered 16,000 arms in 1862 and 1863.
This example is in fine+ condition. The metal is a shinny grey color and all the markings are deep, clear and sharp. The barrel date and lock dates are 1863. The breech is smooth and clean with sharp marks. The cone, rear sight and trigger show most of the original blue finish. all of the parts are original and crisp. The stock is sound and full length. It has nice corners to the flats and a good deep brown color. There are some dings and bumps. The cartouches are sharp and clear. Also there is a WM Welch stamp on the Stock. This contract used parts from other subcontractors and William Welch is the contractor that made the stock.
This is a beautiful example of a mid war contract 1861.
