    Field & Langstroth Derringer SOLD

Henry Derringer made this style of pocket pistol that became popular.   Langstroth was a firm that started as a hardware company in Philadelphia in 1814.  Field joined the firm in 1846 and the firm name changed to Field and Langstroth.  There is some uncertainy whether the firm made these pistols or just put their name on them.  It is marked PHILADELPHIA on the barrel.

This example is in nice condition.  The metal has a smooth pleasing grey patina and the engraving shows little wear.  The action functions and the wood is solid with generous amounts of varnish remaining.
