CONFEDERATE CARTRIDGE BOX AND SLING   SOLD

This cartridge box is a confederate copy of the pattern 1857 cartridge box.  It has loops for both a waist belt and shoulder belt.  The leather is complete and solid except for some wear on the implement pouch.  It was made with thin leather and has some small holes.  The construction in general is serviceable but not up to the Federal standards.  Both wire buckles are intact but the angle indicates lower quality workmanship.  The finial is a pointed brass one.  There is only one tin but it is of a crude construction.  The inner flap has three stenciled letters "TRS"  I am not sure when that was applied or what it means.  The box does have its sling.  The sling is thinner than the Federal sling and the billets are crudely cut.  Neither the sling nor the box are cut for box plates.

This is a good solid CS box that displays well.
