This Colt 1851 is one of 17000 Purchased by the US Army from 1855 to 1859. These Navy's were purchased and issued to US mounted soldiers on the frontier in the late 1850s. Col. Mansfield on his inspection tour in Texas in 1856 found that belt pistols had been issued to 5 companies of the mounted rifles and three companies of the 2nd Cav. This example has a smooth brown patina and good corners. The serial numbers match except for the wedge. The wedge is numbered, just not a matching number. The markings are clear and readable. There is a US stamped in the frame below the Colts Patent on the frame. The address is Hartford Ct. There are some small scattered areas of light pitting on the metal. The cylinder scene is pretty strong about 60 to 70%. The wood grips are solid and have visible cartouches on each side. The right side WAT is stronger. The pistol has a nice action. SOLD
