Colt 1849 Pocket Pistol
The Colt 1849 pocket was Colt's most popular percussion pistol. Over 300000 were made between 1849 and 1872. They were avaliable in different barrel length, 4" , 5" and 6" were common barrel lengths. They were 31 caliber and initially the cylinder had 5 chambers and later changed to 6.
This example has a 4" barrel and a two line New York address. The serial number places the date of manufacture in 1855. The metal is grey patina with small areas of light pitting. There are some areas with finish. The markings are all clear and readable. The serial numbers match except for the wedge. There is some silver remaining on the brass. The cylinder scene is nice and 75 to 80%.
