The 1849 pocket was Colts most successful percussion pistol with over 300000 produced from 1849 - 1872.  They were avaliable is different barrel lengths, 3", 4", 5" and 6".  There were a number of variations during production.  

This example was made in 1854 and has a 6" barrel.  The metal is a grey patina with a nice untouched look.  There are hints of finish.  The two line barrel address is sharp.  The serial numbers match and on the barrel and cylinder there is a "2" in addition to the serial number.  Some think this might mean that it was sold as part of a pair.  The cylinder scene is strong and clear.  The grips are nice with most of the origional varnish.  The action is strong.
