Calvary Carbine Cartridge Box SOLD
This is a example of a cartridge box used by the calvary. It is shorter than the infantry cartridge box. It has a wood block with 20 holes drilled for carbine cartridges. This block has holes 0.56 of an inch in diameter. I have been told by a knowledgable collector that this diameter is for Burnside cartridges. Since the calvary used so many caliber of carbines. The box was designed for a wood block that could accommodate different sizes of holes.
This box is solid and marked J Davey Newark NJ. It is configured for both waist belt and shoulder belts. The box is complete and the stitching is solid.
