18th Century American Revolution Canteen. SOLD
This wood canteen is the type used in the American Revolution. This style has wood bands that are interlocking loops that hold the staves in place. It measures 8 1/2" inches by 4 1/2" high. There is raised wood at the spout. It has remnants of the old paint finish and there are branded initials in the center of the side. There appear to be three initials and the last two look like OE and only part of the first remains. These could be from the cooper who made it or whoever carried it. The wood is solid and stable but shows wear. There are a couple of small chips and it has a great patina. SOLD
