1863 RIFLE MUSKET - S.N. & W.T.C. FOR MASSACHUSETTS. SOLD

This is a 1863 rifle musket produced for the state of Massachusetts In 1864.  The pattern is the 1863 pattern with the screw clamp barrel bands. One of the band screws is missing.  11,000 were made in 1863 and 1864.  This one is grey metal with scattered light pitting.  The markings and strong, clear and readable.  Since this was a state purchase there are no inspectors marks in the wood.  The wood has good definition to the corners around the lock. There is a name carved in the buttstock.  And rack numbers are stamped in the wood below the barrel tang.  

Did a search and Found Charles Wood. Co I 60 Mass state troops.

The 60 Mass was mustered in as a 100 day regiment In August 1864 and sent to Baltimore.  They then were sent to Indiana to guard Confederate Prisoners.  They were mustered out in November 1864.
