Colt 1851 Navy - Army purchase
This is an example of a Colt 1851 Navy that was purchased by the army in the 1850s. This is a 3rd model navy with the US on the frame and US inspection marks. The serial numbers match except for the wedge, which is numbered just not matching. There are single letter inspection marks on many of the metal parts including an A in the brass behind the trigger guard. The grips have cartouche with the left grip being the clearest.
The metal is grey with scattered areas of light pitting. The cylinder scene is strong and about 50 to 60 % visible. The action is good, and the markings are strong
