On Hold
Springfield started production of this model in 1840 and in the 4 years of production 30,421 were made at Springfield. A high percentage were converted to percussion as this example has been. This model has many similarities with the 1842.
This example is dated 1842 on the lock and marked Springfield. The musket is complete and original. The metal is a grey patina with some small scattered areas of light pitting. The barrel proofs are strong and visible. The barrel date is 1843. The stock is sound and full length with nice edges. It shows only light wear. There is one inspector's cartouche on the flat opposite the lock. The action is crisp and this musket presents well.
