1816 WHITE BUFF FROG BAYONET SCABBARD

This bayonet scabbard is a type made in the 1840's for the 1816 musket bayonet.  The length of the scabbard is for the 16" long blade of the flintlock bayonets.  With the 1840 Flintlock musket the bayonet blade length was changed to 18" which was used with later  models.  The frog is white buff leather.  In 1851 the frog, along with the belts were changed to dark buff leather.  The scabbard has some wear, but the leather is solid.  There was some seam splitting along the actual scabbard but it has been repaired.  It is a solid example of a scarce scabbard.
