Susat Civil War Antiques

J Henry 2 band brass mounted Rifle

These rifles were produced in 1861 with a total production near 1000.  Many were sold to PS Justice and others were sold to 2 companies of Pennsylvania  troops.  The rifles have a 35" - 58 caliber barrel and are fitted with a saber bayonet.  The brass patchboxes were purchased from.Sharps Company.

This example is complete and all original, including the distinctive ramrod.  The metal is a smooth grey patina with some small areas of light pitting.  The lock and barrel are both marked J Henry $ Sons.  The stock is smooth and shows minimal wear.  There is a small charred area near the nosecap.  This took a saber bayonet and one was fitted to this rifle.  There is a mating number stamped in the barrel near the muzzle.
