J Henry 2 band brass mounted Rifle
These rifles were produced in 1861 with a total production near 1000. Many were sold to PS Justice and others were sold to 2 companies of Pennsylvania troops. The rifles have a 35" - 58 caliber barrel and are fitted with a saber bayonet. The brass patchboxes were purchased from.Sharps Company.
This example is complete and all original, including the distinctive ramrod. The metal is a smooth grey patina with some small areas of light pitting. The lock and barrel are both marked J Henry $ Sons. The stock is smooth and shows minimal wear. There is a small charred area near the nosecap. This took a saber bayonet and one was fitted to this rifle. There is a mating number stamped in the barrel near the muzzle.
