    Harpers Ferry 1842 Musket. SOLD

The 1842 musket was the first percussion Musket produced in both armories.  It was also the first interchangeable musket produced in both armories.  Production began in 1844 and continued until 1855.

This example shows some use but is still a strong example.  The metal has a brown patina with clear markings.  The lock markings are deep and readable.  The barrel date is not visible.  The V P and eaglehead are strong and there is a set of initials over a P in front of the barrel proof.  This is common on Harpers Ferry barrels.  The stock is sound and has good edges around the lock.  The opposite flat has two inspectors cartouches.  There is a later name stamped in the wood butt area.
