Confederate Ambrotype - Frock Coat - SOLD
This is 1/6th plate ambrotype in a leather case. The image is clear and shows a seated soldier. He is solid looking young man. He wears a 8 button frock coat with pointed cuff trim and collar trim. The buttons are gilded. Frock coats were produced throughout the south and common early in the war. The sleeves look a tad long, perhaps this is early an early war image.
The case is somewhat worn. The hinge is broken and there is some fading to the velvet. Perhaps it was displayed in this soldier's home. The bright spot in the image is from my light.
This is a pleasing image.
