    Colt 1860 Army. SOLD

The Colt 1860 army was the result of streamlining the Dragoon model.  The 44 caliber was popular and effective but the Dragoon was a large , heavy pistol.  Colt reduced the size and weight of their 44 caliber pistol and started production of them just as the Civil War began.  The new design was quickly one of the most popular pistols.  The US Army purchased a significant portion of the 60 Armies produced.

This example was produced in 1862 and was purchased by the US Army.  It has a moteled grey patina on the metal with all marks clearly visible.  The serial numbers match - including the wedge.  The action is strong and there is some of the cylinder scene visible.  The grips show some wear and have a clear cartouche visible on the left grip.
