1873 Trapdoor Trowel Bayonet. SOLD
This tool was designed to attach on the end of a Trapdoor like a bayonet and work as a shovel. It has a locking mechanism to secure it on the end of a rifle. Also a Wood insert was developed to insert into the bore and allow the trowel to used like a garden shovel without being attached on the rifle. This example has the the original wood insert. The bayonet is marked on the socket " Pat Mar 16 72" for the patent information. The socket has most of the original blue. The blade is full length and has a little staining. A very nice example.
