This
pattern 1857 69 cal round ball cartridge box has the US plate but is
missing the tins. It has the centered waist belt loops without any
rivits. The waist belt loops are the Allegheny Arsenal pattern.
Both buckles are tight and the latch tab is intact. Allegheny
Arsenal only made a small number of 69 round ball boxes in the summer of 1861
so this is a rare box. The leather is a bit stiff. Production of
the Pattern 1861 box started early in 1862 so the pattern 1857 boxes date at
the latest from the first year of the war.
