1816 Johnson Contract Musket - Percussion Conversion
1816 muskets were produced at both national armories and by a number of contractors and in various quantities. R & J D Johnson of Middletown CT contracted to produce 1816 muskets. Not many were delivered, and total production is estimated at only 600 muskets.
This example is dated 1835 on the lock and barrel tang. The metal is a grey patina with scattered amounts of light pitting. The markings are clear and readable. The musket is all original with a full length stock. The stock has various dings and bumps but is solid. There is a crack along the bottom of the lock. There is a cartouche opposite the lock and one on the top of the comb of the stock in front of the buttplate tang.
