Colt 1849 Pocket - 6" - 1859
The Colt 1849 Pocket Pistol was Colt's most popular percussion pistol. Over 300000 were made between 1849 and 1872. They came in 4", 5" and 6" barrel lengths. This example was made in 1859, just before the Civil War. It has all matching numbers including the wedge. The metal is a smooth grey patina with some areas of light pitting. These early pockets have the two line NY address. This one is a 5 shot cylinder. The markings are clear and readable. The cylinder scene is 60%. The action is good with a slight hesitation on locking up. There is some finish remaining on the barrel, more than traces. It is probably 10-15 % and is mainly on the barrel lug and under the rammer. There are some visible case colors on the rammer.. The frame is an even grey color. The wood grips have most of the varnish and fit nicely. The backstrap and triggerguard have some traces of the silver.
