Brass Handled Saber Bayonet   SOLD

This bayonet is an interesting example.  I am not sure what it fits.  It is similar to a Sharps bayonet but the ring bore diameter is too large.  It is too small for a Mississippi Bayonet.  The bore diameter was measured as .842 of an inch.  It has a a number "254" stamped on the top of the handle and it takes a lug with a guide.  Several features on the handle indicate it is an Ames product.  However it is not marked.  The blade is 20 " long and has a few scattered area of discoloration and pitting.  Several arms makers had limited runs of two band rifles early in the war it probably fits one of those.
