PATTERN 1839 69 Cal Round Ball Cartridge Box - made by Storm.
This cartridge box is the 1839 pattern and is designed for the shoulder belt suspension only. This particular box is made by one of the 4 prewar contractors - Storm. The Storm mark on the inner flap is the oval mark which they used before the Civil War. The box has one buckle remaining and it has the flat tongue prong. This and the mark suggest early production, perhaps even the 1840's. The box itself is solid and all the stitching is strong. The tins are inside the box but the US plate is gone. The latch tab is intact.
