This Union cartridge box is a pattern 1839 box. SOLD
It is unmarked and probably Allegheny Arsenal production. The 4 makers that produced these boxes under contract marked their boxes. This box is complete with plate, tins and both buckles firmly attached. One of the dividers in the top of one of the tins has come loose. This pattern 1839 boxes were made without waist belts loops. This box however has an alteration done in 1861 at the arsenal to add waist belt loops. They were rivited to the body of the box. These boxes were altered and then issued and usually saw hard service. This is a good example of this type.
